American Hunter-Jumper Foundation, Inc Launches Their New Website
August 7, 2004
The American Hunter-Jumper Foundation (Ahjf) Recently Launched Their New, Totally revamped website at www.ahjf.org. Executive director, Michele Perla, emphasizes that the new site allows viewers “to go to one place and get a complete overview of the AHJF.” She explains that a lot of people associate the AHJF with the World Championship Hunter Rider Awards (WCHR), but adds that the site now “makes it clear that the AHJF is comprised of many things, of which the WCHR awards are just one.” Perla describes the website as being very easy to navigate and is especially pleased with the left-hand navigation bar which places no more importance on any one aspect of the foundation.
The navigation bar takes viewers directly to “About the AHJF,” “WCHR Information,”, “Legacy Cup,” “AHJF/Dover Saddlery Jr. Hunter Challenge,” “Membership Information,” “Press Releases,” “Sponsorship Information,” and “Contact Us.”
Previously, the foundation’s website was a part of the Ryegate Show Services’ site. “Ryegate will continue to maintain our membership and WCHR data and we will still have a link with them,” says Perla. In the near future Perla hopes to be able to process membership renewals, accept donations, and offer products on-line.
The site was designed by Hillary Vars Whelan, a lifelong horseperson and one of the founders of EquiSearch. As Director of Content at this popular website for equestrian enthusiasts, she created a dynamic community environment with timely news, results, articles, and information. EquiSearch was one of the most popular equestrian sites on the web when it was sold to Primedia (parent company of such publications as Equus and Practical Horseman) in 1998.
“Hillary did such a great job designing the Legacy Cup [a high profile AHJF event] site for us in 2001, that I knew she was the one for this project,” says Perla. “She is so creative, plus her extensive horse background is a big help.”
Louise Serio, co-founder and vice-president of the AHJF agrees with Perla. “It’s time we were on our own,” she says. “The new site is so inviting and easy to navigate, just like the Legacy Cup site.”
Vars Whelan describes the site as being, “very clean, easy and functional. People can get everywhere on the site without having to dig that deep.” She says that the pop-out menu means “nothing is more than two clicks away making it a lot easier for the user.” Vars Whelan invites feedback from users of the new site and looks forward to the opportunity to do more equine-related design work through her web consulting business.
For more information on the AHJF programs which include the AHJF Emergency Relief Fund, the AHJF/Merrill Lynch 401k Profit Sharing Plan, and the World Championship Hunter Awards, contact the AHJF office at 508/835-8813 or www.ahjf.org.
