Calgary Stampede Initiative Focuses on Great Value for Families

Come Down, Get Away

May 22, 2008

Calgary, AB --- With the cost of traveling on the rise, and Alberta families looking for the greatest possible value for their leisure dollar, the Calgary Stampede is pleased to launch Come Down, Get Away for this year’s Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, July 4 – 13. Come Down, Get Away features new initiatives that will deliver much greater value for all visitors to the park this year.

“We believe many Alberta families will be vacationing closer to home this year,” says Paul Rosenberg, Calgary Stampede associate vice-president. “We are stepping up to the plate by providing more family-oriented programming and more free entertainment. And, most importantly, we’re holding the line on the price of admission.”

Come Down, Get Away means true value for visitors to Stampede Park. Among the many new features this year are several free and family-friendly areas and programs including:

 The GetAway – an all new, all free, family and teen zone featuring a large Hockey Canada Interactive Zone and a GetAway Stage featuring fashion shows and on stage contests including Rock Band and Wii Sports.

 Stampede Oasis – a 10,000 sq. ft. free indoor park featuring waterfalls, lush greenery and several areas where visitors can sit back, relax and simply get away.

 Enbridge Stage – is being moved even closer to the Kids’ Midway and will feature free family entertainment including magic shows, and dance crews.

 Family Fun Hours – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays. During those two hours on weekdays there’ll be special family programming in Indian Village, Horse 101 in the Agriculture area and special stage shows on the Enbridge and Coca-Cola stages. Family Fun Hours offers families true value and an opportunity to come down and get away when the Park is less busy.

 Northern Lights Arena – this new agriculture show arena, located in the North Barn, will feature a variety of demonstrations designed to entertain and educate the entire family.

 Saddledome Lane – adjacent to the Northern Light Arena, you’ll find the heavy horses being prepared for competition, the Kids’ Tractor Pull, the Canadian Forces display and animal activities all day long.

Along with the new, family friendly and free features at this year’s Stampede, guests can also look forward to world-class experiences at the afternoon Rodeo and the Evening Grandstand show.

“We know these 10 days in July are truly important to local families – it’s a chance to get away from the everyday routines and take a vacation right in your own backyard,” says Rosenberg. “We want to make the annual family trip to Stampede Park wonderful and affordable.”
