Jump Canada Announces European Show Jumping Tour

Ottawa, ON --- Jump Canada is pleased to announce that Mac Cone, Jill Henselwood, Eric Lamaze and Ian Millar will represent the Canadian Show Jumping Team at CSIO 5* Lummen, BEL, from May 1–4, and CSIO 5* Madrid, ESP, from May 15–18.

Cone of King City, ON, will ride Ole, a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Sara Houstoun and Larry Evoy. With Ole, Cone won the $60,000 Kilkenny Cup Grand Prix in Wellington, FL, and was a member of Canada’s second place team in the $75,000 FEI Nations’ Cup, Presented by CN, in Wellington, FL, on March 7, 2008.

Current Pan Am Champion Jill Henselwood of Oxford Mills, ON, will be the lone woman on the Canadian Team. She will compete with her 2007 Pan Am Games mount, Special Ed, a 14-year-old Oldenburg gelding owned by Juniper Farms, and her 2007 and 2008 World Cup Final mount, Black Ice, a 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Stacie B. Ryan and Juniper Farms.

Currently ranked number six in the world, Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, will ride his Pan Am Bronze Medal mount Hickstead, a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion owned by Torrey Pines Stables and Ashland Stables. The pair were also members of Canada’s second place team in the $75,000 FEI Nations’ Cup. Lamaze will also compete with Sadin, a nine-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, and Take Off, an eight-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, both owned by Ashland Stables.

Millar of Perth, ON, will attend both CSIO 5* competitions with two horses owned by Susan Grange and Lothlorien Farms. In Style is a 13-year-old Holsteiner gelding while Redefin is a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding. Millar was the 2004 and 2007 Canadian Show Jumping Champion aboard In Style and, this winter, won the $75,000 Suncast Grand Prix in Wellington, FL.

“It is always great to go to CSIO 5* competitions, which are the highest level riders can compete at,” remarked Terrance Millar, chef d'équipe of the Canadian Show Jumping Team and Chair of the Jump Canada High Performance Committee. “We can always benefit from competing at this level, and it is an excellent chance to prepare our riders.”

The four Canadian riders will form a team for the Nations’ Cup competition in both Lummen and Madrid. A Nations’ Cup is the only competition in show jumping where riders, competing in teams of four, compete against other countries for top honours. The top three scores from each team are counted towards the final result of the two-round competition.
