of Horse Shows to Benefit Family of Woodstock, Inc.
April 23, 2008
Saugerties, NY --- Cars will be rolling in on Saturday, July 26 for the first-ever HITS-on-the-Hudson Classic Car Showcase at the HITS equestrian facility in Saugerties, New York.
The HITS-on-the-Hudson Classic Car Showcase may be new, but Saugerties is no stranger to car shows. The annual Sawyer Motors Car Show features over 400 preened and polished hot rods that line the Village of Saugerties streets during a terrific afternoon of entertainment and events. The 2008 installment of the Sawyer Motors Car Show will be held on Sunday, July 13.
"Since the Sawyer Motors Car Show is before the HITS Saugerties summer series of horse shows begins, we are going to bring a smaller version to the facility for our exhibitors and spectators to enjoy," said HITS' Technical Coordinator and car enthusiast Brian Morris. "Car lovers enjoy showing off their wheels and I think it will be a huge hit!"
The HITS-on-the-Hudson Classic Car Showcase will coincide with the world-class show jumping action that will be going on in as many as 10 competition rings. Prizes will be awarded to the top cars based on votes from the crowd. The most popular car will take home the HITS Horse Power Trophy, which will be awarded prior to the $50,000 Strongid® C 2X Grand Prix on Sunday, July 27.
Morris will help coordinate the event and said he would like to decorate the entire show grounds with hot rods and classic cars for the weekend. "I know I will have my hot rod there," smiled Morris.
There will be a $10 registration fee, which will go directly to Family of Woodstock, Inc. All participating cars must be registered by Monday, July 21. Space will be limited to 50, so car enthusiast are encouraged to register as soon as possible. All hot rods, classics and antiques are encouraged to participate. The showcase will take place from 10 am until 5 pm on Saturday, July 26. To register a car, please call HITS' Director of Special Events Chris Mayone at 845.246.8833 or e-mail Chris@HitsShows.com.
Show jumping at HITS Saugerties runs Wednesday through Sunday from 8 am to approximately 5 pm during a horse show week. On Thursdays some of the top Grand Prix riders will look to earn the lion's share of prize money during the $25,000 Ariat Grand Prix and on Sunday afternoons the stakes are higher as riders and horses vie for up to $50,000 in prize money.
Admission for adults during the week is free and is just $5 on weekends. Children are always admitted free. Once again, all of the proceeds from the gate go directly to Family of Woodstock, Inc. so visitors can feel good that their participation in the horse show is helping a great organization that serves the surrounding community.
The HITS equestrian facility is nestled at the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, just one mile outside the village of Saugerties. The facility offers an on-site food service pavilion, an ice cream parlor featuring an assortment of frozen delights and Starbucks® coffee. The HITS Bar and Grill serves up pizza and cold beer in a spacious air-conditioned lounge. Spectators can grab some lunch and find a grassy spot on the berms while watching some of the world's best show jumping with the entire family right here in the Hudson Valley.
Those interested in the behind the scenes of show jumping can watch the horse show farrier put new shoes on a horse and even tour the stables to see some of the horses and riders up close. And for those who love to shop, HITS does not disappoint. The HITS Saugerties Mall features clothing, tack, fine jewelry, custom footwear, art and photography, and custom HITS souvenirs.
