Moreland Hills, OH --- At the Chagrin Valley Hunter Jumper Classic Horse Show in Ohio, held on July 14-22, 2007, SBS Farms of Buffalo, NY, had a spectacular week. They won six tricolor ribbons, and junior rider Kacey McCann of Palmyra, PA, won the Sarah Allison Steffee Sportsmanship Award and was named Best Child Rider. McCann rides at SBS Farms with Susie Schoellkopf and Jennifer Alfano.
McCann and her trainers were invited into the main ring at the horse show for the special presentation of the sportsmanship award. A speech was given about Sarah Allison Steffee, and McCann said she was “very honored to be given such a unique and meaningful award.”
“Chagrin is such a great show,” McCann noted. “It’s one of our favorite horse shows, and this year they had some new changes to make it even nicer.”
McCann rode Mustique, owned by SBS Farms, to the reserve championship in the Small Junior 16-17 Hunters. She also rode Pirate, owned by Caroline Moran, to solid ribbons in the same division. Moran took over the ride in the Amateur-Owner Over 35 Hunters. They finished as champions after they won every over fences class. Moran was reserve champion on her second horse, Just Jack.
“This was my last show with Pirate,” McCann explained. “I was very excited for Caroline because she did so well.”
In the equitation, McCann rode Double Diamond to second place in the ASPCA Maclay, third in the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search, and third in the WIHS Equitation Classic. “Double Diamond is a new equitation horse,” McCann said. “This is only his third show with us, and I think he’s going to be a really good horse.” In addition to the hunters and equitation, McCann placed in the High Junior Jumpers with Rembrandt VT Paradijs, owned by Danielle Torano.
Trainer and rider Jennifer Alfano had a great week in the professional hunter divisions.
Violets Are Blue, owned by Helen Lenahan, won all four over fences classes and was third under saddle in the First Year Green Working Hunters to easily take the championship. Sting, a SBS Farms-owned entry, won a class and was second in two others to win the reserve championship in the Green Conformation Hunters.
In the Second Year Green Working Hunters, Bright Star 158 LLC’s Rock Star won three over fences classes and the division championship. He placed second in four classes of the Regular Working Hunter division and received the reserve championship.
The champion in the Regular Working Hunters was Once and Again, owned by Meredith Bartolone. Once and Again won three over fences classes for the tricolor. Alfano also won the fourth jumping class in the division on Jersey Boy.
SBS Farms will compete next at the HITS-on-the-Hudson horse show on July 25-29, 2007. Kacey McCann will compete the following week at the 2007 North American Junior Young Rider Championships in Lexington, VA.
