July 24, 2007
East Dorset, VT --- Allwyn Court, a hunter/jumper show stable based in Wellington, FL, continued to top the charts this past week at the 2007 Vermont Summer Festival in East Dorset, VT. The horses and riders from Allwyn Court, owned and managed by Kathy and Gerry Newman and their daughter Katherine, added new ribbons to its tack room curtain after another successful week of showing.
Katherine Newman took home the overall championship in the Small Junior 16-17 Hunters after she piloted Corvet Z to two blue ribbon finishes over fences. The pair also pinned second and third in the other classes and was second in the under saddle. In the Large Junior 16-17 Hunters, she catch-rode a horse for Jay Matter and Dee Thomas named Zenith. Newman and her mount received first, third, and two fifth place ribbons over fences and took fifth in the under saddle.
Sixteen-year-old Newman was also victorious in the equitation classes. With the help of trainer Jimmy Torano, she showed Urco, owned by Gabby Slome, and took top honors in the USEF Hunt Seat Medal. She rode to a second place finish in the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search and captured second overall in the Washington International Horse Show equitation class. “Urco is a really nice horse,” she commented. “He’s very scopey, a lot of fun to ride, and he’s perfect for the equitation.”
Newman showed her jumper Costa Sur in the $30,000 Battenkill Grand Prix as well. “It was a bit bigger than last week and pretty challenging, but I had a lot of fun,” she said. “We finished with 12 faults.” She also showed a horse named Latino for Jay Matter, and they executed clear rounds in the Level 4 and 5 jumpers. Additionally, Newman competed with Eltonn for owner Tracey Topping in the Level 4 classes and Low Junior Jumpers.
Topping competed with her other horse, Espoir Du Feif, in the adult hunters and equitation classes. They received first place in the Adult Equitation on the flat and pinned fifth and sixth in the Adult Amateur Hunters. Sarah Alvarez, also a student at Allwyn Court, guided Titleist to the championship tricolor in the Adult Amateur 18-35 Working Hunters. Titleist is owned by the Manhattan Mortgage Company.
Allwyn Court will continue to show next week at the 2007 Vermont Summer Festival.
