2007 Canadian League World Cup Series Begins in Blainville

July 20, 2007

Ottawa, Ontario --- The 2007 Canadian World Cup League opened on July 8 at the CSI-W Blainville Jumping International in Blainville, QC.

Darrin Dlin, an Alberta native who currently resides in Wellington, FL, took an early lead in the Canadian League standings after jumping double clear in a lightening fast time to win the $70,000 Grand Prix Jumping du Quebec World Cup Qualifier. Paired with Odyssey Venture Inc.'s Catwalk, a 10-year-old Oldenburg mare sired by the late Rio Grande, Dlin earned 19 World Cup points for his win.

“Catwalk was phenomenal in Blainville. She was fast and careful, and I couldn’t have asked more from her,” said Dlin, who also recently finished fifth overall in Pan American Games Selection Trials with the Canadian-bred mare. “It’s nice to be at this caliber of competition and to ride amongst this great group of Canadian riders.”

A second place finish in Blainville put Ainsley Vince of Milton, ON, second in the Canadian World Cup League with 16 points. Vince’s partner was her exciting new mount, the eight-year-old Zangersheide gelding Cantero Z, owned by Iron Horse Farm.

Rounding out the top three is Amy Millar of Perth, ON, who rode her 12-year-old Holsteiner mare Costa Rica Z to a fourth place finish, earning 14 World Cup points.

Frankie Chesler-Ortiz of Orangeville, ON, is in fourth position after accumulating 12 points for her fifth place finish aboard Ranville while 2007 Pan American Games Team member Ian Millar of Perth, ON, is in fifth position with 11 points, having placed sixth place in Blainville with Redefin.

The next event on the Canadian League World Cup calendar is the $100,000 World Cup Qualifier Grand Prix on August 5 at the CSI-W Summer Festival in Palgrave, ON, followed by the $75,000 World Cup Qualifier held during the CSI-W Canadian Country Classic Week 2 in Halton Hills, ON, on September 2.
