Jonathon Millar Maintains Family's Summer String of Success
July 15, 2007
Blainville, Quebec --- Responsibility fell on Jonathon Millar this week to keep Canada's winningest show jumping family on the leader board. While his sister, Amy, gave her horses a week off at home in Perth, and his father, Ian, prepared his Pan American Games mount in Florida, Jonathon kept the family winning streak alive.
Entering just two competitions in the second of a two-week run in Blainville, Quebec, Jonathon netted a first and a second place. Friday's $20,000 Open Welcome Stake saw Jonathon prevail in a jump-off against his father's Pan American Games team-mate, Mac Cone. Jonathon defeated Cone in a jump-off, riding the 12-year-old German-bred mare, Fancy Hill. Cone was aboard Ole, while his Pan American Games mount, Melinda, is in quarantine, in Florida, preparing to travel to the Games.
In today's $50,000 Jumping du Blainville Grand Prix, a tough course resulted in knockdowns for all but one entry. Although Jonathon and Fancy Hill had one knockdown, to score 4 faults, they still earned second place, as the fastest entry with that score. Ainsley Vince, of Milton, Ontario was the victor on
Cantero Z.
The Millars have been on a winning streak in recent weeks, with Amy Millar logging a win last week on a new mount, Piccobello. In last week's $70,000 World Cup Qualifier, also in Blainville, all three Millars advanced to the jump-off, with Jonathon the best-placed in third. In late June, Jonathon and Amy logged back-to-back grand prix victories, jumping off against each other for Amy's win.
Jonathon and Amy will be competing in Bromont, Quebec for the next two weeks. Their father will be logging his eighth Pan American Games appearance in Rio de Janeiro, July 25 to 29.
