Cavalor Canada Sponsored Athletes Frédérique Côte and Bianca Lafontaine
to Compete at the 2007 North American Young Riders' Championship
July 14, 2007
Montreal, Québec --- Frédérique Côte and Bianca Lafontaine, both sponsored by CAVALOR Canada, were named to the team that will represent Quebec at the 2007 North American Young Riders' Championship to be held July 31 to August 6 in Lexington, Virginia. A selection committee of the Fédération Équestre du Québec (FEQ) announced the Quebec team during the CSI-W Blainville Jumping International held July 4-8 in Blainville, QC.
With outstanding performances at designated competitions, Côte of Quebec City, QC, was automatically named to the Quebec team based on points alongside Montreal's David Arcand and Billie De Rouet of Bromont, QC. Lafontaine of Hudson, QC, tied for fourth place in the point standings and was chosen subjectively based on her past performance at the 2006 North American Young Riders' Championship where she was a member of the Bronze Medal Team.
In recognition of this achievement and in order to further support the development of equestrian sports, CAVALOR Canada awarded each member of the Quebec Young Riders' Team a $500 sponsorship during a cocktail reception held at the Blainville Equestrian Park on July 10. CAVALOR Canada will also provide the team with its professional line of product during the 2007 North American Young Riders' Championship.
Eight-time Olympian Ian Millar, an elite athlete sponsored by CAVALOR Canada, offered some words of encouragement to Côte and Lafontaine, saying, "I strongly believe that it is part of my role to support and encourage young and promising athletes of our sport. The North American Young Riders' Championship is a major event for these Young Riders' and they will remember this competition forever. I wish Frédérique and Bianca the best of luck and I am convinced that they will represent Canada with great determination."
Both Côte and Lafontaine have been identified as future national and international calibre show jumping athletes through the 'Releve' development program of excellence administered by the FEQ. By competing at the North American Young Riders' Championship, considered an Olympics for riders aged 14 to 21 from Canada, Mexico, the United States and the Caribbean, Côte and Lafontaine are fulfilling their potential as international athletes.
