Summer’s Here at Halton Place for Juniors and Amateurs

July 9, 2007

Halton Hills, ONTARIO --- The 2007 ‘Summer’s Here’ tournament kicked off Halton Place’s summer season with four days of competition for junior and amateur riders, July 5-8. Over 200 entries contested some unique feature competitions.

14-year-old Megan Barker, of Hamilton, rode Go Go Gidget to first-place in the $1,500 Next Generation Pony Jumper Stake. Although pony jumper competitions are rare in Ontario, Barker and Go Go Gidget have found success in them before.

Mississauga’s Alison Clark took home the lion’s share of prize money in the jumper ring on Sunday. She rode her own Ever After to win both the $4,000 Mini-Prix in the 1.1 metre division, and the $2,000 Speed Demon, a 1.25 metre Table ‘C’ competition. Clark has found success at Halton Place before, having dominated the Amateur-Owner Jumper division last year at the venue’s premier tournament, the Canadian Country Classic.

The $2,500 Larger Than Life Mini-Prix, over a 1.3 metre course, was won by local favourite, Tony Cachia, of nearby Georgetown, on Song.

Top hunter honours went to Sara Baillargeon, of Rockwood, Ontario, who won the $2,000 Child/Adult Hunter Classic on Kathleen Ferguson’s Thoroughbred, Positive Returns.

Halton Place gears up now for their premier annual tournament, the Canadian Country Classic, featuring the $75,000 Swisscan FEI World Cup Qualifier. Week one, running from August 22 to 26 features a $20,000 grand prix. Week two begins on August 29 and culminates with the World Cup Qualifier on September 2. The second week also hosts the Eastern Canadian Qualifiers for the FEI International Childrens’ Jumping Final.
