2006 Equine Canada National Convention a Huge Success

February 17, 2006

Ottawa, Ontario --- As the result of a collaborative effort between Equine Canada (EC) and the equestrian federations of all four Atlantic Provinces (New Brunswick Equestrian Association, PEI Horse Council, Nova Scotia Equestrian Federation, Newfoundland Equestrian Association.), the 2006 Equine Canada National Convention, held from Feb. 6-13 in beautiful Saint John, NB was a tremendous success.

"I would personally like to thank the Atlantic equestrian federations for their support in making this year’s convention a great success. I was pleased to see that our Committees and Councils were focused on moving forward into the future, rather than focusing on the problems of the past. I am aggressively looking forward to this coming fiscal year," commented Equine Canada President, Al Patterson.

With the theme of the eight-day convention being “From Grassroots to the Winner’s Circle”, participants took part in a selection of clinics, educational sessions, seminars and forums - all tailored to the unique issues affecting each of EC’s four divisions: Sport, Recreation, Breeds & Industry as well as the Provinces.

On Sat. Feb. 11 at the Equine Canada Awards Banquet, EC recognized local contributions to the industry and honoured Equine Canada’s National Award Winners. Among the several awards presented were Junior Equestrian of the Year, Volunteer of the Year as well as a very special award, the Gold Medal Award.

Thanks to over 50 generous donors, this year’s silent auction brought an exciting end to a memorable evening as bidders scrambled to find out if they won. Attaining the high selling price was a new Barclay saddle generously donated by Tracy Dixon of Sandridge Saddlery – St. Lazare, QC.

At the Annual General Meeting on Sun. Feb. 12, it was announced that Randy White of Cambridge, ON was the successful candidate in the Director-At-Large election.

Throughout the convention, members of the equine community from across the country were pampered with Atlantic Canada’s renowned hospitality. Part of this wonderful hospitality was displayed in the form of assistance provided by the volunteers from each of the eastern provinces; this event would not have been possible without their assistance.

The convention was sponsored by BF Lorenzetti Insurance, BMO Bank of Montreal, Boehringer-Ingelheim (Canada), Evergreen Riding Center, New Brunswick Trails Council and Carlson Wagonlit Travel – their contributions helped make this event a hit.

Equine Canada would like to extend a special thank you to Sandridge Saddlery for graciously donating a total of three saddles to EC’s various auctions over the short span of only one year. Equine Canada is grateful to everyone that donated items to this auction, but would like to express a special thank you to Cavalier Equestrian Inc. for having donated several high-ticket items to this year’s auction.
