Pearce Heats Things up in California to Earn ProChaps ‘Athlete of the Month’

Ottawa, Ontario --- John Peace of Stouffville, ON has been chosen by Jump Canada as the ProChaps ‘Athlete of the Month’ for January after winning the first Grand Prix of the winter season in Indio, CA.

Pearce was one of six riders to post clear rounds from the 21 entries in the $30,000 Ariat Grand Prix held during opening week of the HITS Indio Desert Circuit on January 27. After tackling course designer William ‘Buddy’ Brown’s challenging jump-off course with his 13-year-old grey Holsteiner gelding, Champagne, Pearce came home fault free in a blistering time of 39.78 seconds, more than one full second ahead of the closest contender.

“Champagne jumped really well,” praised Pearce. “He was fresh and enthusiastic in the first round, and very fast in the jump off. I was really happy with him, he performed extremely well.”

Pearce ended the week on a high note, placing sixth in the $50,000 EMO Grand Prix riding the nine-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding, Urioso, and seventh with the eight-year-old Oldenburg gelding, Archie Bunker. Both horses are owned by Pearce’s Forest View Farms.

In recognition of his achievement, Pearce will receive a pair of state-of-the-art riding chaps, compliments of ProChaps.
