Margaret Murdoch Appointed Canada’s First Dressage Steward General

November 30, 2005

Ottawa, Ontario --- Dressage Canada is pleased to announce that Margaret “Maggie” Murdoch has been appointed as Canada’s first FEI Steward General for Dressage.

“I was very surprised and very honoured to be asked,” said Murdoch.

The new position is a result of the Officials Committee’s dedication to further the dressage specific steward program, as well as the FEI’s recommendation to appoint a discipline specific Steward General. The FEI stated that over the past number of years, stewarding has developed considerably, making it unrealistic to have one Steward General responsible for a variety of disciplines.

Each discipline specific Steward General will be reporting to their National Federation, as well as the FEI Steward General of that discipline. Within the next year a meeting will be held for all FEI Steward Generals, and training manuals will be established for each discipline by the FEI Steward General, who is responsible for coordinating matters relating to all discipline stewarding.

Murdoch is a well qualified representative, coming into the new position with a great deal of knowledge and expertise, being a member of the Officials Committee, a well respected FEI Steward and a Dressage Specific Steward in the Ontario region.

“Maggie is an excellent representative for Canada and this appointment will promote and encourage those individuals interested in pursuing the Dressage Specific Steward program,” said Brenda Minor, Chair of the Dressage Canada Officials Committee. “She brings much experience and enthusiasm to the position, we're glad to have her on board.”
