Jean-Guy Bureau (1938-2005)
November 29, 2005

Ottawa, ON --- Equine Canada is saddened to report the loss of one of Canada’s most memorable tack dealers. Jean-Guy Bureau of Montreal, QC, passed away following an unsuccessful heart surgery performed at the Montreal Heart Institute on Tuesday, November 15. After suffering from a heart-attack while away on business in Great Britain this past spring, this well known icon within both the local and international equestrian communities, continued to receive medical attention. As a last attempt, Jean-Guy bravely underwent the surgery knowing all too well that the chances for survival were slim.
This exceptional individual will be best remembered for his smiling face and Santa Claus-like personality; regardless of where and when he was seen, he merrily handed out lollipops to the young and old alike, giving him the well deserved nickname of ‘Candy Man’.
In addition to being recognized as a knowledgeable horseman and blacksmith, it is without a doubt that the saddles and horse equipment marketed under the ‘Candy Man’ brand name were always of the highest standards. Many of our top Canadian riders can proudly say that they first started riding in a ‘Candy Man’ saddle.
Funeral services were held Friday November 18 in Montreal.
