Spruce Meadows Appoints New President and CEO

Calgary, AB --- Spruce Meadows Co-Chairmen Marg and Ron Southern are pleased to announce the appointment of Linda Southern-Heathcott to the office of President and Chief
Executive Officer. Mrs. Southern-Heathcott has been an integral part of the Spruce Meadows organization since its founding in 1975. Prior to joining the senior management team at Spruce Meadows, Mrs. Southern-Heathcott was a full-time professional athlete with Team Spruce Meadows and a 10-year member of the Canadian Equestrian Team. Upon her retirement from the sport following the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, she joined
the management team at Spruce Meadows and has served as Executive Vice President since 2000. In her role as President and CEO Mrs. Southern-Heathcott will lead a team of 90 full-time staff and 500 volunteers in the staging of the 300 events held each year at Spruce Meadows. These include major corporate events, conventions, conferences, trade-fairs, product launches, educational and corporate strategy programs as well as six International Show Jumping Tournaments that offer over $6 million in sponsor-funded prize money and are broadcast to 100 countries on six continents.
In addition to her Chief Executive role at Spruce Meadows, Mrs. Southern-Heathcott is the Vice-Chairman of Akita Drilling Ltd., a Member of the Board of Directors and the Pension Committee of Canadian Utilities Limited, Executive Vice President of Sentgraf Ltd., and a Director of the Logistics and Industrial Business Group of ATCO Ltd. She is also a Director of the Calgary Olympic Development Association and the FEI Children’s Committee.
Founded in 1975 in Calgary, Alberta, Spruce Meadows is recognized as the #1 venue in the world for the International Horse Sports. Each year more than 400,000 fans attend Spruce Meadows tournaments which in their history have awarded more than $60 million in prize money to athletes from 45 nations.
