FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Toronto, ON --- Rookies on the Grand Prix circuit, like Alberta’s Kristin Russell riding her horse, Ashton’s Lucky 7 and Ontario’s Lauren Hunkin with Air of Gold, will take on a slate of Olympians in their quest to become Champion at the National Finals of the Kubota Cup Canadian Show Jumping Series this Saturday evening, November 5th, at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.
Since April 2nd , the nation’s top riders and most promising rookies have been vying for leadership in the Kubota Cup Canadian Show Jumping Series. The Western Division began at the Royal Winter Fair in Brandon, Manitoba, moving on to Edmonton, Alberta and wrapping up at the Twin Oaks Derby in Richmond, British Columbia where the Western Division Champion, Tamie Phillips (Strathmore, AB) and her mount Lucas were crowned. The Eastern Division started in Ottawa, Ontario, moved to Bromont, Quebec, back to Collingwood, Ontario and finished at the Maritime Fall Fair in Halifax, Nova Scotia where John Pearce (Stouffville, ON) and his horse, Archie Bunker, won the Eastern Division Championship.
Now it’s come down to the National Finals. The best from the west have come to challenge their peers from the east in a national showdown Saturday evening at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Throughout the Series competitors amassed points based on their placings in each Grand Prix class. The horse and rider combination in each Division with the highest points became the respective Division Champion.
All bets are off at the National Finals as competitors enter the ring with a clean slate. The Kubota Cup National Finals Champion will be the clear winner of the class. Western Division Champion, Tami Phillips will be going head-to-head with Eastern Division Champion and Olympian, John Pearce. Mario Deslaurier, another Olympian, has set his sights on the podium as well. Series’ spokesperson, world champion and 8-time Olympian Ian Millar will also be jumping for the Cup.
Twenty-one horses will tackle the Grand Prix course, but only one will emerge as the Kubota Cup Canadian Show Jumping Series National Finals Champion.
