Horse Events Get a Leg-Up at Farmfair International
October 24, 2005
Edmonton, AB --- Farmfair International at Northlands Park in Edmonton puts great stock in the big business of purebred beef cattle, and has stepped up its horse-related programming for 2005. This year, organizers are adding another five horse-related competitions and events.
“The horse industry is huge in Canada. Ranchers from across the prairies come to Farmfair International to showcase their beef herds or check out breeding stock, and many of these same people have horses,” says Dave Fiddler, agricultural manager at Northlands Park. “Our new horse programming is great for the ranchers who visit us and makes for fabulous free entertainment for city families getting in to the western spirit. Many of these competitions are a test of real-life tasks that our ranch visitors perform on their own properties, but it’s a real show when you see these professionals going through the paces with their top-notch horses.”
As part of Northlands Park’s Alberta Centennial celebrations, an all-new Invitational Heritage Ranch Rodeo is slated for the evenings of November 7 and 8. This rodeo pits ranch-hands from the country’s top century-old ranches against each other in test of their real-life ranch skills. Ranch rodeos are popular events for cattle ranchers across Canada and throughout the U.S.
A new Working Cow Horse Competition November 7-8 will allow horses and handlers to compete in an entertaining show of horsemanship at its best; cutting, reined work and fence work.
The Bucking Horse Sale, a big hit in 2004, returns on the morning of Thursday, November 10h. Top rough stock from ranches across Western Canada will be on the auction block, with aspiring rodeo cowboys on hand to showcase their bucking abilities in the ring.
The Quarter Horse Sale on Friday, November 11 will feature a preview of sale horses prior to the sale, showcasing the quality of the horses for sale. There will also be a showcase of some of the best stallions in Western Canada.
Farriers from around the world will gather at Northlands Park to compete in Farmfair International’s first-ever International Horseshoeing Competition, to be held November 11 to 13.
The addition of the Curt Pate demonstrations, November 11-13, is considered a huge coup for Farmfair International. Curt Pate is a world-renowned Montana horse trainer and clinician, widely known for teaching how to improve your horsemanship skills by using traditional, low stress cowboy methods that apply to any riding program.
Also returning to Farmfair International, the ever-popular Team Penning, Draft Horse Pulls and Stock Dog competitions will be held November 4-6. For more information, check out farmfairinternational.com.
