Mario Deslauriers Earns ProChaps “Athlete of the Month” Title for September
October 6, 2005

Ottawa, Ontario --- Mario Deslauriers of Bromont, QC, has been selected as the ProChaps “Athlete of the Month” for September.
During the Spruce Meadows “Masters” Tournament held from September 7-11, the Calgary skies may have opened over the International ring, but the sun was shining in the world of Mario Deslauriers. On Grand Prix Sunday, Deslauriers and his 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding, Paradigm (Nabab de Reve x Pachat II), incurred only one time fault over two demanding rounds of competition to capture third place in the coveted $1,000,000 CN International, the richest grand prix event in the world.
“This was a really great prize for me,” commented Deslauriers, who earned $100,000 in prize money for his masterful negotiation of the Leopoldo Palacios-designed course. Earlier the same day, Deslauriers, who is a “Team Molson” member, placed fourth in the $75,000 Molson Cup aboard the 10-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare, Naomi (Cantus).
Deslauriers’ success continued two weeks later when he and Paradigm enjoyed a second place finish in the $100,000 John Deere World Cup Qualifier Grand Prix at the CSI-W Tournament of Champions held September 25, 2005 in Palgrave, ON.
“I have only been working with these horses for a few months now and I feel lucky to have such a great string of horses,” said Deslauriers who, at the age of 19, became the youngest athlete to ever capture the World Cup Final.
In recognition of his achievement, Deslauriers will receive a pair of state-of-the-art riding chaps, compliments of ProChaps.
