Horses show real ‘cow sense’ at Wrangler Cutting Horse Futurity

Calgary, AB --- It’s cow versus horse in one of the largest cutting horse competitions in Canada – the Wrangler Cutting Horse Futurity – at the Corral on Stampede Park from October 11-16, 2005.

This competition displays the intelligence and athletic ability of three- to six-year-old horses as they cut a cow from the herd. Over $250,000 in prize money will be handed out to competitors from Canada and the U.S.

“Cutting is an exciting sport demonstrating the finest in equine athleticism,” says Robert Wise, agriculture manager for the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede. “This competition is really a true test of these young horses’ ‘cow sense’ skills.”

Admission to the cutting horse competition is free with the exception of the Saturday evening finals which has an admission fee of $10 for those 12 years of age and older. Admission includes a cabaret from 9:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. with musical entertainment by Ivan Daines and the Cowboy Band.

New to the competition festivities is Family Day on Sunday, October 16th. This day includes a free traditional Stampede pancake breakfast from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Corral.

The Stampede showcases the diversity and dynamics of the agriculture industry through events such as the Wrangler Cutting Horse Futurity. “Celebrating and promoting the people, energy and resources that agriculture contributes to our way of life is the focus of Stampede agriculture,” says Wise.
