Equitation Expert Susie Humes Judges 2005 ASPCA Maclay National Finals
August 2, 2005

Wellington, Florida --- Susie Humes, an experienced trainer and horsewoman, further demonstrates her equitation expertise at this year’s ASPCA Maclay National Finals. After years of successfully riding and training under legendary professionals, Humes brings an impressive knowledge of equitation into her coaching and judging success.
Humes trained Whitney Roper to win the Washington International Equitation Classic in 2002, as well as co-trained Erin Stewart during her ASPCA Maclay Final win that same year. Humes’ rider, Josephine Nash, placed second in the USEF Medal Final in 2003, and her pony rider, Ashley Erbesfield, took third in the Pony Medal Finals.
Receiving her “R” rating as a judge in the late 1970’s, Humes has years of top-notch experience in the judge’s booth. Humes judged at such prestigious horse shows as Lake Placid, the Hampton Classic, The National Horse Show, The Upperville Horse Show, Washington International, the Kentucky horse shows, the Winter Equestrian Festival, and the AHSA/USEF Pony Finals. Humes also judged all four national equitation finals- the Pony Medal Finals, the AHSA/USEF Hunter Seat Medal Final, the ASPCA Maclay, and the Washington International Horse Show Equitation Classic.
In 2001, she judged with Ralph Caristo at the last Maclay National final that took place in Madison Square Garden. She and Caristo had worked together in the past, judging the AHSA/USEF Medal in 1998.
For the past few years, the flat portion of the ASPCA Maclay National Final involved 75 riders, but this year the format will be similar to that of 2001 with three groups of eleven riders. Humes comments, “I think the consensus is that this format allows more extensive flat testing. It also narrows the focus to the best 33 riders on that day.”
This year, Humes joins George H. Morris in the judge’s booth for the 2005 ASPCA Maclay National Finals. An enthusiastic Humes reports, “I am looking forward to judging with George, who is certainly the father of Hunt Seat Equitation and has been a friend and mentor for many years.”
