National Sport Series Comes to Quebec

July 26, 2005

Bromont, Quebec --- The historic site of the 1976 Olympic equestrian events is the setting for this weekend’s second stop on the Eastern Canada Division of the Kubota Cup Canadian Show Jumping Series.

The $60,000 Kubota Cup Grand Prix on July 30 at International Bromont will feature some of Canada’s best in the sport of show jumping, including hometown favourite Mario Deslauriers and 8-time Olympian Ian Millar plus a slate of International riders from other countries. Frankie Chesler of Orangeville, ON will be looking to build on her Series’ points lead by putting in a repeat performance of her Kubota Cup Big Ben Memorial Grand Prix win in Ottawa two weeks ago.

International Bromont Competition Director Roger Deslauriers says, “I think the Kubota Cup Series is a great thing for our riders in Quebec and for us show organizers. For once we have a Canadian Series which we can count on.”

“It’s great, and I’m sure Kubota is going to be with us forever, so thank you to them.”

The seven-city Canadian Show Jumping Series, the subject of a 13-part television series airing on the Global national television network beginning in September, spans the country from the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic Coast. It has been made possible through a multi-year commitment from Kubota Canada Ltd.. Ross Wallace, Kubota Canada’s General Manager, says “Kubota Canada has been committed from the beginning to ensure that the Kubota Cup is a truly coast-to-coast series with all regions of Canada represented in our schedule. Quebec is a very important market for us and the International Bromont is a premier venue. We especially appreciate the 'joie de vivre'."

Up for grabs in this inaugural year of the show jumping series is a total $385,000 in prize money. A Crystal Trophy and a new Kubota RTV 900 Utility Vehicle will be awarded to the Western Kubota Cup Champion in Richmond, BC August 14 and to the Eastern Kubota Cup Champion in Halifax October 15. The top riders from both divisions will meet at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair November 5 where a Kubota Cup Canadian Show Jumping Series National Champion will be crowned and another $65,000 in prize money and incentives will be disbursed.

The production crew from Generator Productions will be on site at International Bromont as they continue to delve into the behind-the-scenes stories of show jumping and its riders, horses and other personalities for the television series, “Along For The Ride.”

Visitors to International Bromont will see the Kubota vehicles in action as they are used to keep the beautiful grounds of the equestrian venue in superior shape for the competition, which runs for ten days. A wide range of Kubota equipment will also be on display and their versatility can be experienced with a test drive on the trails surrounding the area.
