New Faces at Equine Canada

July 25, 2005

Ottawa, Ontario --- Equine Canada is pleased to announce the addition of three fine new individuals at the National Office.

The first to join the team in early June was Debbie Millar, filling the new role of Director of Operations. Millar has worked extensively with non-profit organizations as well as both federal and provincial governments, specializing in community and economic development projects. Millar’s equine appreciation lies in one of her two daughters, Jessica, personally benefiting from the unique properties of therapeutic riding.

In the first phase of Millar’s work, she has been tasked with conducting a detailed review and analysis of the Equine Canada operations, business processes and human resources. The outcomes of this review will be used to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of all programs and services that are managed through the National Office. In addition to these responsibilities, Millar will be assuming numerous other operational management duties at Equine Canada.

Next to arrive in the new line up was Michael Arbour, Equine Canada’s new Director of Finance. Arbour has over 20 years of management experience working within both private and not-for profit associations. In recent years, he has worked extensively with a national registered charity dealing with various levels of government, boards and members.

Married with two daughters, Arbour is actively involved with several community activities. He obtained his “Certified Management Accountant” designation in 1992. Arbour’s role at Equine Canada will be to continue streamlining all finance related policies and procedures and to ensure compliance with all governing and regulating bodies.

Relocating from Montreal at the beginning of July was Dave Thind, EC’s new Manager of Media Relations and Communications. Thind has been an avid equestrian since his early teens and has successfully competed in the disciplines of hunter/jumper, eventing and dressage up to Prix St Georges. In addition to having represented Canada overseas at nine FEI-recognized University level Nation’s Cups as well as the World University Equestrian Championships, Thind is former publisher of a bilingual equine publication.

Currently, Thind is involved in the industry as a dressage trainer, President and Media Relations Manager of the Canadian Universities Riding Clubs Association, as well being the owner of a licensed breeding stallion.

At Equine Canada, Thind is responsible for directing all internal and external communications and has immediate plans for the EC website, HorseLife Magazine and increasing mainstream media coverage for equestrian sports. Thind’s passion for all things equine will surely act as inspiration for his various duties at EC.
