Ottawa, Ontario --- It looks like July is going to be another great month for Jill Henselwood of Oxford Mills, Ontario.

Following the $50,000 RBC Financial Group World Cup Qualifier held July 2 at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, AB, Henselwood has easily maintained her lead in the Canadian League World Cup standings. Riding Special Ed, an 11-year-old bay Oldenburg gelding owned by Juniper Farms, Henselwood placed fifth following a 14-horse jump-off.

Riding the 10-year-old Dutch-bred gelding In Style (Accord/Lord), Ian Millar of Perth, ON, placed immediately behind Henselwood in sixth position with a double clear jump-off effort. With only four faults, yet another Canadian rider, Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, placed in the top ten aboard the nine-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion, Hickstead (Hamlet/Ekstein). With a time of 34.05 seconds, the winner of this event was Great Britain’s Nick Skelton on his 11-year-old stallion, Arko III.

Henselwood took the early lead in the Canadian League World Cup standings following the opening event of the season, the $100,000 CN Performance World Cup Qualifier held June 19 during the CSI-W Spruce Meadows ‘Continental’ Tournament, in Calgary, AB, where she placed third. This past winter, Henselwood and her talented partner, Special Ed, a former dressage competitor, enjoyed impressive results on the California circuit as well as at two World Cup Qualifying events in Europe.

“Spruce Meadows has become one of Special Ed's favourite venues,” noted Henselwood. “He enjoys the competitive atmosphere and has become a ‘big event’ horse I can rely on.”

Over the next few months, riders will compete at various Canadian League World Cup qualifying events in an effort to qualify for the 2006 World Cup Final. Following the final qualifying event at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair on November 9, 2005, the two top-placed Canadians in the World Cup standings will represent their country at the 2006 World Cup Final held April 26-30 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
