Award-Winning Film Crew At Ottawa Horse Show
July 13, 2005
The production crew from Toronto-based Generator Productions is on site at the ‘Kubota’ Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament at Nepean National Equestrian Park filming riders and horses for the 14-part television series, “Along For The Ride”.
The Series, to be aired on Global National Television beginning in September, features the “underlying” stories happening as the Kubota Cup Canadian Show Jumping Series touches down at show jumping tournaments from coast to coast.
The crew, led by award-winning director John Dolin, has already recorded several hours of film from Kubota Cup shows in Brandon and Edmonton. Those who have seen a rough cut of the first episode report that the story of show jumping is going to be told like never before. It is the inside story of the riders, their horses, the owners and other personalities, and the communities where the Kubota Cup is hosted. At Ottawa they will continue to delve into those behind-the-scenes stories.
“The rider’s life is pretty interesting,” says director Dolin. “I think it’s not what we would assume it is. I’ve learned different things about different riders.”
“It’s a made for TV serial program about the Kubota Cup Series focusing on show jumping in Canada – across Canada,” says Sandra Fraser, founder of the Canadian Show Jumping Series.
The Series’ theme song, “Along For The Ride”, written and produced by Jon Van Wingerden (from Perth), is included on a new album by fresh Canadian singing talent Craig McIntyre (also an Ottawa-area boy) and his band. They will be performing at various Kubota Cup events during the week.
Ottawa is the first stop on the Kubota Cup Eastern Canada Division. Riders will be competing in the $65,000 Kubota Cup Big Ben Memorial Grand Prix on July 17, where Canada’s top show jumping riders and local grand prix talent, as well as the riders and horses who are future Canadian Olympians, will be vying for a portion of the purse and for points towards the Division championship which will be held in Halifax in October. The champion will receive a crystal trophy and a Kubota RTV900 Utility Vehicle. The top riders from both the Western Canada and the Eastern Canada divisions will meet at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto in November 5 for the Kubota Cup Canadian Show Jumping Series National Championship Final.
