Sussex, New Brunswick --- Hosted by the Maritime Quarter Horse Association (MQHA), the Summer Sizzler is the second of four major AQHA Approved Quarter Horse competitions being held at the Princess Louise Park Show Centre this summer. According to MQHA Show Organizer Hannah Searle, “94 horses competed at our June show (and) we hope to have the same (or even more) entries for the Summer Sizzler.” Competitors come from the three Maritime provinces, Quebec and Maine.
Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. each day. Divisions offered include: Line classes for Stallions, Mares and Geldings – further separated by Open, Amateur and Youth handlers – plus a Yearling Longe Line Futurity with over $750 in added money; the Open Showmanship Challenge; Novice, Amateur and Youth Showmanship; Lead Line class for riders under the age of 8; Horsemanship; Trail; Western Riding; Western Pleasure; Barrel Racing; Pole Bending and Reining classes; plus an English Hunter and Equitation division.
“There will be a different judge each day,” said Searle. “Our judge on Saturday is Mr. Wayne Erwin from Ohio. Sunday’s judge is Mr. Denny Thorsell, also from Ohio. And Monday’s judge is Mr. Bill Fuchs from Pennsylvania.”
“A special event for the youth exhibitors will be the youth team tournament,” she continued. “And as a fun event, a costume class will be held on either Saturday or Sunday evening after the completion of the show.”
The public is welcome. Admission and parking are FREE! The PLP Show Centre’s canteen will be open offering hot and cold meals, snacks and beverages.
