San Patrignano, Italy --- San Patrignano has reason to celebrate today, as the official announcement was made as to who would make up the Italian national team at the European Jumping Championships, scheduled to take place on July 21-24. In fact, Jerry Smit on Nadir (a horse born and raised on the grounds of the Rimini-based community) was among the five horse and rider teams selected by the Italian Equestrian Federation to compete. “This is the best news that we could hope for,” stated Giacomo Muccioli, President of the Championship’s Organizing Committee. “Nadir’s results are improving consistently, after only a little over a year with Jerry in the saddle. In being chosen for the team, we are achieving a goal that we set for ourselves a long time ago, as breeders. It is the result of a project intended to maximize the relationship between man and horse here in the community, and we are reaping its rewards. I want to thank Jerry for this wonderful achievement and for his integrity as a man and a rider.” Nadir was born in the community’s stables in 1995, son of Corrado I and Lancerina, both of whom had successful competitive careers in their own right.

In 1999 he won the UNIRE Performance test, with a total of 869 points, scoring 745 for disposition, 921 for athletic ability, and 859 for jumping ability. He began competing in the show jumping arena in 2000 with Fernando Fourcade, winning 12 first year competitions. In 2001 he competes in his first CSI, placing many times and winning ten times in the Young Horse category. In 2003 he placed in various international competitions, including the Italian National Championship for seven year olds. He also participated in the World Championships at Lanaken. That same year he was approved for breeding by the Zangersheide stud book.

Since 2004 he has been ridden by Jerry Smit, and has achieved the following results: 2° at CSI Ascona, 3° CSi at Vinovo, 4° CSIW at S. Hetrtogenbosh, 4° in the GP CSI at Vinoso, 6° at the GP CSI Ascona, 9° at CSI Cervia, 10° and 15° in the CSIW at Goteburg.

Smit and Nadir will be present along with four other horse and rider teams: Carabiniere Bruno Chimirri with Landknecht, State Policeman Vincenzo Chimirri with Askoll Rosa VII, Juan Carlos Garci with Albin III, and Andrea Herholt on Nanta. Each of them will ride in the warm up on Wednseday, July 20th, to see who will make up the final formation of four riders.
