July 5, 2005
Ottawa, Ontario --- Drive Canada is pleased to announce that Jennifer Matheson, formerly of Toronto, ON, now residing in Aiken, SC and her eight-year-old German Riding Pony stallion, Danyloo have been named to the Canadian Equestrian Team for the 2005 FEI World Combined Pony Championships, to be held July 14-17 at the Catton Park, England.
Nancy Mann, also of Aiken, SC will be navigating at the Championship, and Marsoe LaRose will accompany the group as Team Coach.
Danyloo and Nancy recently flew from New York to Amsterdam, where their team competed at an FEI event at Sandringham on June 2-3, 2005. This pre-championship event was a good warm-up, with a good showing overall.
“We are delighted to have Jennifer and Danyloo on our team this year. Both are very dedicated to the sport, have a great training program, and are very enthusiastic,” remarked Simon Rosenman, the Chef d’Equipe for Canada.
Jennifer, who was born in Montreal, QC, was competitively driving by the age of 9 with her Shetland ponies, and was also a junior Event rider, coached by Sue Ockendon of Bromont, before moving to Toronto in 1977. Jennifer became a member of the North York Hunt, earning her colours and playing polo at the Toronto Club, before moving to Wellington, FL in the late 1980’s.
Soon after she married William Matheson, the couple settled in Aiken, where Jennifer started her driving career grooming for her mother-in law, Katrina Becker. Katrina has shared many moments in the winners circle in both Pleasure and Combined Driving.
Today, Jennifer manages the Katydid Farm, is a licensed Realtor, and organizes the Katydid CDE competition held each fall in Aiken. The Matheson’s have three children, Amanda, 15, and twins William and Evan, 13.
